The short version
- There are no accounts, no payments and no newsletter on this site.
- If you use the contact form, we receive what you type, plus some technical details, so we can answer you.
- We do not run a web analytics service on these pages.
- Many links to retailers are affiliate links. Clicking one tells that retailer or affiliate network that a visit came from us.
- Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google sees a request from your browser.
Who we are
solarpanelkits.co is an independent guide to off-grid solar equipment. It is published and operated by Scout Theory LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy describes what the site does with information, as of the date above. It covers solarpanelkits.co only, not the retailer and network sites we link to.
The site has no user accounts, no checkout and no payment form. We do not sell anything: we link to retailers who do.
What we collect and why
Information you send us
The only form on the site is the contact form. When you submit it, these details are sent to us:
- your name and email address;
- the topic you picked, the project type and stage you chose, and any page you named;
- your message.
We use these only to read and answer your message, to fix errors you report, and to keep a record of the conversation. The form does not sign you up for anything.
Technical details sent with the form
When the form is sent, your browser also passes along the address of the page you were on, the page that referred you (if any), your browser’s user-agent text, the page language, and how long the page had been open. We use these to understand the message in context and to filter spam. The form also has a hidden field that real visitors never see; a filled-in value there marks a message as spam.
Where the form data goes
Form submissions are sent to a Google Sheet that we operate, through a Google Apps Script web address (script.google.com). Google acts as a service provider that stores and processes this data for us. The same sheet can receive messages from other sites run by Scout Theory LLC; the name of the site is recorded with each message so ours can be told apart.
Ordinary server requests
Loading any web page involves your device sending a request that includes your IP address and browser details to the server that delivers the site. The hosting server may keep ordinary technical logs of those requests for security and troubleshooting. We do not add visitor tracking on top of them and we do not use them to identify you.
Analytics
As of the date above, solarpanelkits.co does not run Google Analytics or any other web analytics or advertising tracker on its pages. We do not build profiles of visitors. If we add an analytics tool in future, we will name it here before or when it goes live.
Third parties
- Google. Stores contact-form submissions (Google Sheets and Apps Script) and serves the fonts the pages use (Google Fonts, from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Loading fonts sends your IP address and browser details to Google. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Amazon, eBay, Bluetti, Renogy, CJ and Impact. Receive your visit when you click one of our links, and handle everything after that, including any purchase, under their own terms and privacy policies.
We do not pass form submissions to anyone else for their own use, other than the service providers named here, unless the law requires it. Links to other sites in the guides are likewise outside our control.
How long we keep things
We keep contact messages for as long as needed to answer you and keep a sensible record of the exchange. After that we may delete them. Information held by Google, retailers or affiliate networks is kept under their own policies.
Your choices and rights
- You can use the site without sending us anything. Browsing the guides does not require the form.
- You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form and choose “Privacy request” as the topic. We may need to confirm the request comes from the email address you wrote to us with.
- You can block cookies, use a private window or a content blocker, or block Google Fonts, in your browser.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. We will handle reasonable requests in good faith.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us a message, tell us through the contact form and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes, for example if we add a tracker or a new affiliate program. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest revision.
Contact
For privacy questions or requests, use the contact form and choose “Privacy request”. There is no phone line or postal address for this site. For how we earn money from links, see the Affiliate Disclosure; for the rules of using the site, see the Terms of Use.
